Here is an overview of the process:

Why choose a scholarship fund over other types of gifts?

How to set up your scholarship fund:

  1. $10,000 is the minimum required to open a permanent MHSAA Scholarship Fund!
  2. The donor creates the criteria for their scholarship.
  3. MHSAA builds a donor web page where anyone can contribute.
  4. MHSAA acknowledges all donations on Facebook to thank donors and to promote the growth of your scholarship fund.
  5. MHSAA creates a large donor plaque to be added to the display in the most traffic-filled hallway at Marion High School.
  6. MHSAA creates a scholarship application based on the donor’s criteria (along with standard information we collect for all scholarships)
  7. Scholarship applications are accepted Jan. 1 through March 31.
  8. After the application period closes, MHSAA compiles applications sends them to the donor for their review. If needed, MHSAA and MHS can offer additional information upon donor’s request.
  9. Donors can use up to 4.5 percent of their total fund to award scholarships each year. Donors can choose to add extra funds to award more scholarships. (Sometimes kind alumni offer financial matches, and sometimes the Marion High School Alumni Association offers the same.)
  10. The donor decides the recipient(s), and MHSAA prepares award certificates and plans the awards ceremony.
  11. In April, typically near the end of the month, MHSAA facilitates the presentation surprise to all of the MHSAA Scholarship winners. Parents are invited, as are the donors.
