MHSAA presents business scholarships to four Marion High School seniors

Marion High School Alumni Association congratulates this year’s winners of the Robert Hull MHSAA Business Scholarship: Mason Delgado, Halle Larson, Elijah Maki, and Asa Weaver, all members of Marion High School’s Class of 2024.

This scholarship connects Marion High School student-athletes to careers in sports marketing, finance, accounting, or business. The four honorees this year were awarded $500 each.

Robert Hull MHSAA Business Scholarship was established in 2023 by Hull, a 1991 graduate of MHS.

Mason Delgado has been a standout soccer player, earning Offensive Player of the Year three times, All-NCC two times, and team MVP his senior year.

Mason also worked as an assistant coach for the Marion PAL Club indoor soccer program.

He plans to attend Purdue University Fort Wayne for business.

“Playing soccer at Marion, I learned how to be a part of a team and how to contribute to that team, and also how to manage different personalities to get the best out of my teammates for the good of the group,” Mason said.

Halle Larson has been a four-year varsity letter earner in three sports. In cross country, she earned most-improved and mental attitude awards. In swimming and diving, she earned coach’s and team spirit awards. In track and field, she earned leadership awards. In all three sports, she was named to the NCC All-Academic Team.

Halle is the president of National Honor Society, secretary of Art National Honor Society, senior class vice president, Student Senate vice president, and a member of Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, M-Club, and the wind ensemble. She has also been active with her church and started a local chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She plans to attend Olivet Nazarene University for business management, marketing, and communications. She also plans to join the ONU swim and dive team.

“Sports have taught me a lot about being flexible, adaptive, getting along with others and maybe most importantly how to be coachable, in all walks of life, not just sports,” Halle said.

Elijah Maki has been a standout tennis player, playing No. 1 singles and serving as team captain. He helped lead his team to a sectional championship, and he earned All-State and All-NCC recognition, along with work ethic, leadership, and MVP awards. He also was a member of the wrestling and track teams.
Elijah is a member of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, wind ensemble, jazz band, Quiz Bowl, Super Bowl, table tennis club, and is a junior class representative. He has also been an active member of his church and has been involved with international missions work. He has also volunteered with the Grant County Rescue Mission, Hope House, Fairmount Family Camp, and also taught tennis lessons for kids ages 5-12.

He plans to attend Indiana University Bloomington for business and film.

“Marion’s sports program has not only enhanced my physical abilities but has equipped me with life skills such as discipline, teamwork, resilience, and accountability that will undoubtedly shape my character and guide my actions in the future,” Elijah said.

Asa Weaver has played football for four years, baseball for one year, and has been manager for the basketball team for two years.

He is an active member of his church, and he has also volunteered with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the TCC Backpack Giveaway.

He plans to attend Ball State University for business administration.

“My goal is to create a business that not only supports my aspirations but also contributes to the betterment of society,” Asa said. “This is a dream rooted in hard work, dedication, and a genuine desire to leave a positive mark on the world.”
